Show Notes

Inspired by the Biblical account of the Book of John, the musical “Revival” weaves the Resurrection story with theatrical elegance and cinematic cleverness.

Accomplished film, television, and stage actor Harry Lennix and also the voice of Pharisee in the all-black cast of voices for the audio Bible “Inspired By … The Bible Experience,” saw the original play as an Easter performance at Dr. Holly Carter’s church.  During that time, Lennix also had an idea of Jesus being portrayed as a more 21st century person.  And as Mali Music says, “together – along with the spirit of God – [they] came up with something beautiful.”

Revival is a movie about the humanity of Christ vs the Spirit of Christ with beautiful imagery and an amazing cast featuring Mali Music as ‘Jesus,’ Michelle Williams as ‘Mary Magdalen,’ Chaka Kahn as ‘Herodias’ and more. Personally, my favorite parts in the movie were those of Kevin Yarbrough who played the role of Thomas, T’Keyah Crystal Keymáh as “Rebah” and Chaka Kahn who let loose with in true Chaka Kahn form with the song, “This Ends Today.”

I spoke with Mali about his role as Jesus and the effect it had on him, scoring and arranging the movie’s original soundtrack with gospel great Donald Lawrence and the need to sometimes walk through doors that are uncomfortable to you.

“REVIVAL” is now available through TriCoast Entertainment on many digital & DVD platforms (Amazon, iTunes, FLIXFLING, Vimeo on Demand, Vudu, FANDANGO, Google Play), and available for purchase at Walmart, Target and Best Buy.
